Viagra for women

The first drug to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

According to statistics, about 40% of women suffer from this disease at some point in their lives. Psychological factors that contribute to a lack of sexual desire in women are low self-esteem, stress, or mental problems. Hormonal disorders, as well as fatigue or certain lifestyle habits, also have an effect.

Although the exact mechanism of action of “female Viagra” is not fully understood, manufacturers believe that it affects chemicals in the brain that are associated with sexual desire.

The administration explains that 100 mg of the drug should be taken once a day, at bedtime. Patients should stop using it if no improvement is seen within eight weeks. It is emphasized that the medicine is prescribed by certified medical specialists.

The decision to approve the drug was made after reviewing three studies involving 2,400 women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. The average age of the participants is 36 years.

For 24 weeks, they took either a placebo or a 100 mg dose of medication at bedtime. From the data, it can be seen that women taking the drug have a moderate increase in sex drive, as well as their sexual activity. It has also been reported to reduce stress as a result of low libido.

The administration explains that the drug is also associated with some side effects, including loss of consciousness, especially when taken in combination with alcohol. For this reason, special training is required for specialists who should prescribe the so-called Viagra to women.
