What is hydrochlorothiazide?

Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic medication that functions by inhibiting salt absorption, which may cause fluid accumulation. Hydrochlorothiazide is typically utilized to manage high blood pressure. Moreover, this medication is also prescribed to treat edema in individuals with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen.

You should not use hydrochlorothiazide if you are unable to urinate. Before using this drug, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma, asthma or allergies, gout, diabetes, or if you are allergic to sulfa drugs or penicillin. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may intensify some of the side effects. Also, during exercise and hot weather, overheating or dehydration should be avoided, and you should follow your doctor’s instructions about the type and amount of liquids to drink. Drinking too much fluid can be as hazardous as not drinking enough. Hydrochlorothiazide has the potential to interact with other drugs. It is critical to inform your doctor of any other prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are taking. Hydrochlorothiazide must be taken regularly, even if you feel well

. Blood pressure often has no symptoms. Hydrochlorothiazide is not recommended for use in children under the age of 18. If you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, you should not take hydrochlorothiazide. If you take hydrochlorothiazide while pregnant, your infant may develop jaundice or other issues. Furthermore, you should not breastfeed while using hydrochlorothiazide.

Take hydrochlorothiazide exactly as prescribed by your doctor, and do not change your dose without first consulting your doctor.

Dehydration is a common adverse effect of hydrochlorothiazide, which can lead to severe low blood pressure or electrolyte imbalances.

Your blood pressure should be checked frequently. If you require surgery, inform your surgeon that you are taking hydrochlorothiazide.

The medication should be stored at room temperature and away from moisture, heat, and freezing. The bottle should be kept tightly closed when not in use.
